  2. Dear Mike Peterson,
This chapter is different. It didn’t have as much pizzazz or a cliff hanger like the last one. Other than that Good job. I like these stories

  3. Where did you get the idea, to make Anna go to the store with Jake? Are they going to be a family again?

  5. I am enjoying Anna’s story so far. I was wondering how you came up with the idea of Jake and Anna being brother and sister?

  7. Hi, it's me Matilde H.M. This chapter was just like I thought it would be, GREAT! I was super excited when you wrote back. My life just got better beacuse, I thought you were just goihg to read my letter and forget about it. When I told my mom I was going to blog to you she said you were probably too full of yourself to care. BUT, you wrote back! Thanks so much! Can't wait for the next chapter!

  8. Matthew, here's a challenge to help you answer your own question ... Read the start of the chapter again. Why does Jake say what he does to Tommy? And what is he telling Anna about his new life? How does her response tell you that she understands?

Now read down almost at the end, when Anna is talking about her father's drinking, and Tommy says that Teddy Roosevelt wanted to close the beer parlors. How does she answer him? Which one of them sounds more experienced?

Remember that Jake was homeless for several years. Tommy wasn't. There are things that Jake and Anna can talk about that Tommy doesn't quite understand. It's the same thing as how kids who are divorced understand some things that kids whose parents are together really don't quite get. It's not a good thing or a bad thing, and it doesn't mean that Tommy can't be a very important person for each of them, but sometimes you need to talk to someone who has had the same kind of experience as you. And that's kind of what's happening in this chapter.

  10. I think in this story it is sad because her mom,Dieter and Frieda die. They are left with thier dad. He drinks beer and is mean to them.

  11. This is a sad story so far, Tyler. And I think that Jake certainly never expected to ever see his sister again, and is probably a little surprised that she's alive. But stick with it, and remember that, so far, we know they have new families and are healthy and well, so it's not as sad for them as it used to be!
